In 2020, many reacted to the blatant crimes committed against Black Americans in the form of police brutality and pledged to support their fellow Black citizens in any way they could. Yet oftentimes, these horrific acts of violence and displays of racism are the tip of a very deep iceberg of unseen racism that creates a social climate in which it is easier for these acts to occur. Oscar Holmes IV illustrates the variety of subtle dangers Black Americans face and shows us how our understanding can contribute to collective healing. Oscar Holmes IV is the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs, an Associate Professor of Management, and the RUSE Director at Rutgers School of Business-Camden. Additionally, he is the founder and CEO of WHConsulting Firm LLC and creator and host of ‘Diversity Matters’ podcast. His research examines how leaders can maximize productivity and well-being through fostering more inclusive environments and has been published in several top-tier management journals and books. He earned a Ph.D. and M.A. in Management from The University of Alabama, M.L.A. from The University of Richmond, and a B.S. with honors from Virginia Commonwealth University. When considering the perspective of a disabled person, it is easy to only consider the physical and mental daily challenges and neglect the social and societal challenges that they face. When we spend more time imagining their experience than asking the people who live it, we run the risk of causing more harm than good to those we aim to support. Angeline Dziegrenuk uses her own experiences as a disabled individual to illustrate the full scope of challenges disabled people face and how they can be respectfully supported. An aspiring activist and entrepreneur, Angeline Dziegrenuk is a student of many interests and hobbies looking forward to breaking into the fashion industry. While studying at the Atlantic County Institute of Technology for Fashion Decoration and Design in high school, she became the first student in a wheelchair to design and model her own clothing for her academy’s annual fashion shows. She also became the titleholder of Junior Miss Wheelchair New Jersey for the Year 2020 and 2021. After gaining experience in the fashion industry, Angeline dreams of launching an adaptive clothing line to promote self expression and independence for the disabled community. When we think of what it takes to be a leader, we often think of traits of personality rather than character. We view leadership as a social position that requires extraversion, charisma, even authority. But is this really accurate? Priyal Shah proposes a different perspective on the matter by defining the attributes of a B.R.A.V.E leadership mindset and demonstrating how to cultivate the leader inside us all. Priyal Shah is currently an undergraduate student enrolled in the 7-year BS/DO program at Rutgers University-Camden. Throughout the history of humankind, two opposing forces have continually hung over our existence: what we know versus what we believe. In other words, science versus faith. Malaika Mahmood will dive headfirst into the nature of this mysterious relationship between the seen and the unseen, our place within it, and whether these two powerful forces are truly even opposed at all. Malaika Mahmood is currently an undergraduate student at Rutgers University Camden pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Biology with a concentration in chemistry and mathematics. Since the age of seven, she has had a passion for public speaking and drive to help communities. She is actively serving her as President of the Student Wellness Advisory Board and Vice President of Biology Club. Along with this, her enthusiasm for science has led her to conduct various innovative research projects.
